Suo-motu Action of Lahore High Court - Job for People with Disabilities

The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on Tuesday that the federal government had appointed 1,386 disabled people in different departments under the two percent quota fixed for them. Deputy Attorney General Iqbal Gillani informed the court that the government would appoint more disabled people against 800 vacancies.

He said the federal government had also sought a report from all provincial governments about the vacancies reserved for disabled people. LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Khawaja Muhammad Sharif put off the hearing until August 10 with directions to the federal and provincial governments to submit their reports after appointing disabled people against the quota reserved for them. The CJ had taken suo motu notice after a ceremony for the 'Most Caring Families Awards' held by the Punjab Welfare Trust for disabled people . The CJ was the chief guest at the ceremony.

During the ceremony, it was brought to his notice that the central as well the provincial governments had fixed two percent quota for the employment of disabled people, but the departments were not following this rule. staff report
