BOSTON, MA - On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, "Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all," the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) announces the addition of two new countries for 2013 grantmaking: Haiti and Rwanda. "Adding Haiti and Rwanda to the current 24 countries in which we have opened grantmaking makes a lot of sense," stated Diana Samarasan, DRF's Executive Director, "it is our hope that in providing grants to Disabled Persons' Organizations (DPOs) in these countries, we will help to remove barriers that limit equal participation by persons with disabilities in society and development."

DRF's 2013 grantmaking is starting with a letter of interest process for Disabled Persons' Organizations (DPOs) in Ukraine and India (States of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Tamil Nadu or the National Capital of Delhi The LoI process will be followed by a request for proposals process for Indonesia, Haiti, and Lebanon, to be publicized in February 2013.

DPOs in Ukraine and selected states in India may submit a letter of interest as a first step to determine if their project fits DRF eligibility criteria and priority funding areas. DPOs may apply as a) single organizations or partnerships for 12-month Small Grants and/or b) state, provincial, regional or district DPO-led coalitions for 24-month Mid-Level Coalition Grants (a new funding stream) or c) national DPO-led coalitions for 24-month National Coalition

Grants to single organizations will range from USD 5,000 to 20,000 and will support efforts to build CRPD skills and to develop rights-based advocacy and monitoring on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Grants to mid-level coalitions will range between USD 30,000 - 40,000 per year (60,000 - 80,000 over 24 months) and will support passage of specific legislation or policy to accord with the CRPD at state, provincial, regional or district levels, and achievement of governmental budgetary measures at these levels to implement the CRPD. Grants to national DPO-led coalitions will range from USD 30,000 to 50,000 per year (60,000 - 100,000 over 24 months) and will support advocacy toward ratification of the CRPD/OP, passage of specific national legislation to accord with the CRPD, or the production of or follow up to civil society reports to UN human rights monitoring mechanisms.

Interested organizations are urged to review the eligibility criteria and letter of interest details posted at the Fund's website, http://www.disabilityrightsfund.org/grant. The letter of interest process helps determine fit with DRF criteria and priorities before applicants expend time and resources to put together a full proposal. If eligible, applicants will be requested to submit a full proposal.

Any questions on the letter of interest process should be directed to mailto: info@disabilityrightsfund.org. The deadline for receipt of Letters of Interest is January 14, 2013.
