Deep Condelences to Mr Frederick Miller

Mr Frederick Miller

We are saddened to report the death of Mr Frederick Miller passed in his sleep in evening, on Thursday, 7 August 2014 at the Suva Private Hospital. He is the Regional Disability Inclusive Development Specialist (Pacific) at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Australian High Commission in Suva, Fiji. Prior to this, he spearheaded the disability inclusion work at the University of the South Pacific (USP) for 6 months between January and June 2013 setting a solid platform for the USP Disability Resource Centre to continue this momentum at this regional academic institution. From 2006 to December 2012, he served as the first Disability Coordination Officer at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) playing a very key role in the development and implementation of the Pacific Regional Strategy on Disability (PRSD). Fred was also the first male Co-Chairperson for the Pacific Disability Forum (PDF). He was a high school teacher by training teaching at Cathedral Secondary School in Suva for many years. He was also the former President of Fiji Disabled Peoples Association and member of the DPI Regional and World Council. He was one of the outstanding pioneers and architecture of the disability movement in the Pacific contributing in a great way to where PDF the Forum Secretariat’s Disability Coordination Officer
