May 4-5, 2009, Jakarta, Indonesia - Expert Dialogue with Civil Society on the Regional Human Rights Mechanisms

FORUM-ASIA and the SAPA (Solidarity for Asia Peopleโs Advocacy) Task Force on ASEAN and Human Rights will conduct an Expert Dialogue with Civil Society on the Regional Human Rights Mechanisms from Europe, Latin America and Africa in Jakarta, Indonesia, 4-5 May 2009. The objective of the Dialogue is to exchange best practices, challenges and move forwards on the experiences of the civil society from three regions - Africa, the Americas and Europe. It is expected that the forum will provide a venue for SAPA TFAHR members (who are also FORUM-ASIA members) to learn from the three regionsโ experiences to refine their work to influence the process of establishment of the ASEAN human rights body which is independent, accountable and effective in the sub-region and its actual operation then. About 45 participants had confirmed as well as the five experts.
