5th National Disability Convention in Bangladesh
2000 representatives of grassroots disability movement will gather together under one roof from the rural areas of Bangladesh with their demands for implementation of UNCRPD and inclusion of disability in Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The theme of the Convention is โEmpowerment and participation of people with disabilities ensures inclusive developmentโ
The Honโble Prime Minister of the Peoplesโ Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Convention. She expressed her commitment in her partyโs Parliament Election Campaign 2008 for the development of people with disabilities in Bangladesh.
There are explicit demands by the disability movement for disability legislation in the light of the UN Convention on the Rights of Peoples with Disabilities that Bangladesh has already signed and ratified.
During the day-long sessions notable speakers will express their solidarity with the disability movement to ensure participation of people with disabilities in realizing development agenda through international cooperation.
Jointly organized by its partners National Council of Disabled Women (NCDW) and National Grass-roots Disabled Organization (NGDO), Action on Disability and Development (ADD) will hold the day-long 5th National Convention of Disabled People at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka on Monday 19 October 2009.
The Convention will be rounded off with gala cultural events by disabled artists from the grass-roots organizations.
Letโs express our solidarity to amplify the voice of the grassroots through this biggest gathering of people with disabilities in Bangladesh.
