Disabled war in Iran

TEHRAN - On behalf of the Supreme Leader three teams attended the homes of a number of the disabled war veterans in different parts of Tehran to thank their sacrifices in commemoration of the War-Disabled Day.

The teams were briefed of the war veteransโ€™ way of life and their problems.

Thousands of Iranian armed forces were maimed in the 1980-1988 Iraqi imposed war against Iran.

The War-Disabled Day in Iran falls on the birth anniversary of Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas, the brother of Imam Hossein (pbuh), whose hands were cut off in the war between Imam Hossein and Yazid bin Muawiyah on the day of Ashuraa in 680.

In Muharram of 61 hijri, October 680, Imam Hossein, the grandson of the great prophet of Islam, and 72 of his loyalists sacrificed their lives to revitalize Islam and its teachings from the distortions Yazid and his fathers had brought about.

Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas is greatly respected particularly among Shias for loyalty to his brother during the war. He had a high reputation as the greatest warrior of his time and mirrored the strength of his father Ali ibn Abi Talib
