Joint APPGs on Disability, Eye Health and Visual Impairment, Learning Disability, Mental Health, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Disabled people and welfare reform: where we are and where we need to be

Monday 29 October 4.30-5.30pm in Committee room 4a, Palace of Westminster

The APPDG will look at the impact of recent welfare reforms on disabled people and people with long term health conditions.

The meeting will include a summary of recent research into the experiences of 4,500 disabled people with specific focus on the new Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

There will also be a discussion on what can be done both in the short term to ensure that the WCA, PIP and Universal Credit all work to support and empower disabled people, but also what can be done in the long term to ensure disabled people can live independently and fulfil their potential in employment.

Speakers include Esther McVey MP, Minister for Disabled People; Jaspal Dhani, Chief Executive of UK Disabled People’s Council; as well as disabled people giving their personal accounts.
