Expressions of Interest from Legislative Drafters
Under the United Nations Partnership to Promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Pacific Office, seeks expressions of interest from legislative drafters who have proven experience in drafting disability-related legislation. The intention of such legislation is to reduce discrimination against persons with disabilities and improve service provision for persons with disabilities in Pacific Island Countries.
The legislative drafter is required to undertake either one or both of the following in Pacific Island Countries that request this assistance:
- Undertake a thorough legislative review to collect information on legislation, including constitutional provisions, statutes, codes and regulations, to provide a means of understanding the extent to which laws discriminate against persons with disabilities, as well as the extent to which they promote the rights of persons with disabilities. (Desk review)
- In consultation with a national committee comprising stakeholders from government and civil society, especially disabled persons organisations, develop either drafting instructions OR legislation that is compliant with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), depending on the preference of the country requesting this assistance. This will require one week working in country with follow-up work desk-based.
Consultants with relevant qualifications and experience are invited to send their curriculum vitae and details of expected rate of remuneration and availability to: registry.epo@un.org by 12 July 2013.
