Job Description: Research Assistant Position
Monitoring Educational Rights for Girls with Disabilities (MRGD) is a research project funded by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in support of Vietnamese with disabilities to realize the rights of girls with disabilities in education . The project is piloted in Tu Liem district in Hanoi in two years 2013-2015.
MRGD is a collaborative project by a multi-national research team from the major universities in Canada and Portugal, including York University, McGill University, and the University of Lisbon. We aim to develop and implement innovative research methodologies to support the rights to education of girls with disabilities in Vietnamese schools. The participation of girls and women with disabilities is a central element of this project. We also work in collaboration with the Action to Community Development Center (ACDC) and UNICEF Vietnam in the development and implementation of this project.
We are hiring one Vietnamese research assistant to assist the research team in the major phases of the research process. The research assistant (RA) will have an opportunity to work with the multi-national research team under the supervision of the principle investigator. S/he will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the research process in fieldwork, data collection, translation, and data analysis. The RA will have an opportunity to be trained in conducting monitoring methodologies and participatory visual research as the innovative research methods in monitoring educational rights. The specific responsibilities of the Vietnamese research assistant are described below:
- Performing a literature search and bibliographical compilation
- Planning and co-ordinating with the team in workshops, fieldwork, writing report on the issues being discussed at the workshops and training
- Supporting the team in data collection, data analysis, and data management
- Assisting in translation
Qualifications:
- The applicant is a female student with disabilities in higher education or a female student who is commited to disability issues.
- Experience in disability and educational issues in the Vietnamese context.
- Excellent in communicative and organizational skills.
- Good at communicating in English.
- Having basic research skills and is capable of working independently and fulfilling assigned tasks on time.
Salary:
The total number of hours is 10 hours/week, within 32 weeks/year, in two years. The RA can arrange her time appropriately. She will work at the Action to Community Development Center (ACDC) in the implementation of the project. Please note that this is a service provision from the successful candidate. We cannot cover the cost of the successful candidateโs moving and/or relocation expenses.
