Women with Disabilities

Statements by IWRAW Asia Pacific and From Global to Local participants at recent CEDAW Committee's informal discussion on NGO-Committee engagement

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) decided to hold an informal meeting with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) during its 45th session in Geneva to discuss ways of strengthening NGOs engagement with the Committee in the context of its work.

For your information, IWRAW Asia Pacific and 5 women from Ukraine and Uzbekistan, participants from our From Global to Local programme, attended this meeting on Jan 19 2010 to provide inputs into the discussion of the Committee and lobby for a formal space within the schedule of the Committee to ensure that women's groups from the countries under review continue to be able to engage directly with the Committee to advance their advocacy on women's rights at the national level, and also to support the work of the Committee through the facilitation of alternative information to the review process.
