Part of Beijing + 15 OHCHR on-line discussion forum on "Women and Human Rights"
Welcome to the online discussion moderated by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on โWomen and Human Rightsโ. In 1995, the Beijing Platform for Action identified lack of respect for and inadequate promotion and protection of the human rights of women as critical obstacles against gender equality and empowerment of women. The aim of this discussion is to draw on the collective experiences to identify good practices contributing to the realization and advancement of respect, promotion and protection of Womenโs Human Rights.
The discussion will start on 1 February and end on 28 February and will address the following sub-themes:
- National legal frameworks โ challenges, trends and best practices with respect to legal protection of women's human rights (Week 1);
- Accountability โ challenges, trends and best practices with respect to ensuring accountability for violations of human rights of women, including violence against women (Week 2);
- Access to justice โ challenges, trends and best practices with respect to womenโs access to justice (Week 3); and
- Summary, wrap-up and observations (Week 4).
