Final Statement Concerning Beijing +15 process Review at Commission on the Status of Women New York, March 4th, 2010

The Fourth World Conference on Women produced the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), a comprehensive women's human rights paradigm that envisioned the transformation of power relations.

Feminist Tech Exchange Reboots, March 8, 2010

In celebration of International Women's Day, the Feminist Tech Exchange (FTX) is launching its new website. The FTX is both a training initiative for women's rights advocates and a community of feminist and technology activists. The FTX was developed by the Association for Progressive Communications Women's Networking Support Programme (APC WNSP) in response to calls from feminist and women's rights movements for greater understanding of emerging technologies, their potential and impact on the rights and lives of women.

Rights to Redress and State Accountability: Responding to Violence against Sexual Minorities in Africa

"We need to understand what it means to be heterosexual as well as homosexual, and that our sexualities affect whether we live or die.

During this 54th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women on the occasion of the 15+year review of the Beijing Declaration and Platform, the Coalition of African Lesbians ("CAL") reinforces that: LGBTI rights are human rights, that we are not claiming or asking for "special" or "additional" rights BUT that we call on our African governments to condemn the violence perpetrated against sexual minorities, to refrain from engaging in this violence and to take all measures to ensure the protection of sexual minorities, in particular, lesbian and transgender women subjected to violence..."

GEAR UP NOW! 54th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women: 2010 Gear Campaign Statement

"The Gender Equality Architecture Reform (GEAR) Campaign, a network of over 300 women's, human rights and social justice groups around the world urges UN Member States and the UN Secretariat to move swiftly forward to create the new UN gender equality entity. GEAR also urges the UN to set up a transparent process now for recruiting the best qualified Under Secretary-General to head this agency. On the 15th anniversary of the historic Beijing World Conference on Women, the United Nations must move without further delay to implement changes that it has repeatedly recognized as critical to fulfilling its mandate of working for gender equality as a crucial component of development, human rights, peace, and security..."

9th Civicus World Assembly: Acting Together for a Just World

August 20-23, 2010 Montrเน‰al, Canada

The overall theme of the CIVICUS World Assembly is 'Acting Together for a Just World'. Every year this is explored through a focus theme. In 2010 the focus theme will be 'Seeking Out Solutions'. This theme will address the issues of Economy, Development and Climate. Every year, the CIVICUS World Assembly offers about fifty activities grouped around the overall theme, an annual focus theme and sub-themes. The activities comprise plenary sessions, round tables, workshops, networking sessions and formal events. The 2010 World Assembly in Montreal will introduce the concept of interactive group discussions (or Parcours) for the first time.

The International Secretariat for Human Development (ISHD), York University, Toronto, Canada in collaboration with El Centro Boliviano de Estudios Multidisciplinarios (CEBEM), La Paz, Bolivia are inviting submissions for a global inventory of women-led initiatives for social change. This project is supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. The purpose of this inventory is to contribute to wider dissemination of women-led development experiences and to integrate them into development-related curricula, research, practice, and policy advice.Deadline for submissions: March 31, 2010.

Call for Proposals: UNIFEM: Somalia: Gender Situation and Needs Analysis, CSO Scoping

Due to the continued conflict situation, the national gender machineries - the three ministries tasked with gender equality or women's welfare - in the three zones of Somalia have not only been marginalized in whatever very little institutional development initiatives have been undertaken but are also missing from processes of democracy-building and the larger state building actions. The recognition of this gap by the UN agencies and the need for action to address gender inequality and women's rights based needs forms the basis for this Request for Proposal (RFP) to carry out Gender Situation and Needs Analysis, CSO Scoping and Development of a Joint Assignment on Institutional Development of Gender machineries in Somalia. It has been more than two years now since the start of the largest financial meltdown and global economic recession in over fifty years. And yet, how have our governments responded to this crisis in such a way as to uphold people's fundamental dignity and human rights? The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID), the Center of Concern, Center for Economic and Social Rights (CESR), the Center for Women's Global Leadership at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (CWGL) and the International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net) jointly release a new report.

A New Publication: Africa for Women's Rights: Ratify and Respect!: "Dossier of Claims"

On the occasion of International Women's Day and the first anniversary of the Campaign "Africa for Women's Rights: Ratify and Respect!", over one hundred organisations publish their "Dossier of Claims", addressed to the governments of the continent. A New Resource: Youth Coalition: "Young People and Universal Access to Reproductive Health"

In September 2006, the United Nations General Assembly resolved to adopt Target 5.B of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs): "Achieve, by 2015, universal access to reproductive health" (RH). Nearly half of the world's population is currently under the age of 25 and across the globe, young people face unique challenges that increase their risk of sexual and reproductive health morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is absolutely critical to address the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of young people in order to achieve universal access to RH.

Call to Action: Women on the March until we are All Free!

The 3rd International Action has been launched on International Women's Day (8th March), and will continue throughout the year until the 17th October (the International Day for the Eradication Poverty). The International Action includes decentralised activities (at the country level) and regional activities (in Asia-Oceania, Europe and the Americas). It also includes an international event, focusing on peace and demilitarisation, the mobilisation in Bukavu (South Kivu province), in the Democratic Republic of Congo, that will bring the International Action to an end.

The daughter of human rights defender Mr Pedro Brizuela , Ms Claudia Larissa Brizuela , was murdered on 24 February 2010. Pedro Brizuela is a member of the Frente Nacional de Resistencia Popular - FNRP (National Popular Resistance Front). Claudia Larissa Brizuela was also a FNRP supporter.
