Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) Annual and Audited Financial Reports for 2008
SAFOD is registered as a welfare society in Zimbabwe and Botswana and works through member organisations in the SADC. As a non โ profit making and non โ partisan organisation, SAFOD specializes in the following key areas:
- Training of Disabled Peopleโs Organisations in how to manage their organisations;
- Empowerment of people with disabilities so that they realize their potential and thus take care of themselves;
- Training governmental and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and personnel on how to mainstream disability in their development programmes / activities;
- Promotion of Inclusive Education and Training in schools, colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning;
- Building partnerships with government ministries, local authorities and the private sector in order to address disability issues;
- Promotion of good health among people with disabilities and their families;
- Working with the media to raise awareness on the living conditions of people with disabilities;
- Lobbying for the domestication of international human rights instruments, including the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), Convention on the Rights of Children and CEDAW;
- Provision of expert advice on Universal Design i.e. the construction of disability โ friendly environs and / or public facilities;
- Promotion of participatory research on disability and related issues;
- Mobilization and management of resources for disability โ related programmes.
