Transport minister announces three lifts for new Ringwood station
DISABILITY advocates are rejoicing with the news that the $66 million Ringwood train station upgrade will include lifts.
Public Transport Minister Terry Mulder has told the Leader there will be three lifts installed as part of the station and interchange upgrade, providing access to the platforms, station concourse and bus interchange.

"I am pleased to announce the final scope of the Ringwood Station and Interchange Upgrade, which includes lifts as well as ramps, escalators and stairs," Mr Mulder said.
The final plans had incorporated feedback from the community, including from 200 people who attended community information sessions last year.
The original plans in April last year had included lifts, ramps, stairs and escalators, but an update in July said these features would be finalised subject to further analysis and costing.
"Initial plans for the upgraded Ringwood Station considered a range of access methods, but we wanted to seek community input to determine the final designs, ensuring the upgrade would be tailored to local needs," Mr Mulder said.
The lifts will be large enough to fit ambulance stretchers and will have a back-up power supply in case of blackouts.
Disability advocate Margaret Stevens said it was "marvellous news" that the station would have lifts.
"I think that the Government has finally listened to the people who actually are going to use the Ringwood Railway Station," Mrs Stevens said.
"It's going to be very welcome news not only for people with disabilities, but also mums with pushers and people with walking sticks."
Three companies have been short-listed to tender for the project due to be completed in early 2016.
