BPKS: press conference on "Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) to country development"

National Alliance of Disabled Peoples Organizations (NADPO) organize a press conference yesterday 5 August 2009, at VIP Lounge of National Press Club, on โ€œPersons With Disabilities (PWDs) to country developmentโ€.

The Secretary-General of NADPO presented a keynote paper while Mr. Abdus Sattar Dulal, President of NADPO, Mr. Saiful Islam and Mr. Showkat Hossain Bhuiyan both are vice president of NADPO and the executive members of NADPO were present.

The leaders of NADPO ask to the government to take appropriate attention towards of following points:

  1. Urgent attention needed to Implementation โ€œUN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilitiesโ€ with brisk actualization of all relevant policy and act of the country,
  2. 15 seats should be reserved in the national parliament and effective participation should be ensured at all levels of local Government system of the country for the representatives of 10% citizens with disability and representative of the disabled peoples organizations;
  3. All political parties of the country should preserve at least 1 post in all their committees for the representation of disabled people and agenda for disabled peoples should include in their election manifesto.
  4. Social welfare ministry should be rename as โ€œSocial Development Ministryโ€;
  5. The affairs of disabled peoples should be included in all ministry โ€˜Rules of Businessโ€™ considering โ€œUN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilitiesโ€;
  6. The full and equal participation of the Women With Disabilities (WWDs) should be ensured in all levels of formulating and actualizing the realistic development plan for the development of the PWDs irrespective of color sex, race caste and creed in light of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilitiesโ€
  7. In order to strengthen the DPOs Government should allocate 1% of national budget and to implement partnership programs with DPOs.
  8. The present government has announced their plan to make a digital Bangladesh for facing the challenge of 21st century, in this regard specific directions should be provide by the government to disabled peoples in the country as disabled people responsible citizen of the country;
  9. NADPO should accept with consultative statues to the Government towards working for establishing rights and enhancing dignity of the disabled people as it is obligatory for the government.
