New cordless phone to children's centre

OUR Telekom donated a cordless and a mobile phone to the Solomon Islands Red Cross Handicapped Centre yesterday.

Head of the centre Cathy Anilafa on behalf of the secretary general of Solomon Islands Red Cross said theyโ€™re very grateful of the donation as it will contribute positively to the operation of the centre.

She said most of the time the phone keep on ringing but no one was there to answer as most of the time they are attending to the children.

โ€œUnlike formal schools where syllabuses are tailored for every school which teachers to some extend find easy to cope up with, the handicapped centre is more different where children learning process varies on individual capacity depending on their disability status,โ€ Ms Anilafa said.

โ€œTherefore, teachers need more attention and commitment in order to live up to the childrenโ€™s expectation.

โ€œWith the donations of the phones it will make life easier and convenient for the centreโ€™s operation,โ€ she said.

There are currently seven teachers and few overseas volunteers on and off running the centre.

Speaking on behalf of Our Telekom, Assistant marketing officer branding Ethel Francis said the company is very proud to assist children who are living with disability to discover their full potential as normal person.

โ€œBy assisting the centre it will motivate the centreโ€™s management to aim higher in providing quality education program for the children with disability,โ€ she said.
