Condolence Message from Mr. Shoji Nakanishi

Dr. Ick-Seop Lee, ex-president of DPI Korea, has passed away on February 2nd after long struggle with his illness.

Dr. Lee was indispensable person for DPI World. With deep academic knowledge, he supported development of DPI as world organization for advocacy of human rights. He also provided many opportunities to young leaders, disseminated independent living movement into Korea, made policies of personal assistance service and accessibility, and supported capacity building of leaders in various fields.

He participated into the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as representative of Korean government, and hammered out and refined the draft of Convention by working together with Mr. Azuma who was representative of Japan.

Executives of DPI World are now gathering in St. John's, Canada, for executive meeting, and all filled with deep sorrow.

As regional chair of DPI Asia Pacific Bloc, I could implemented several projects with his strong support. Also personally, he is my good friend and visited my home with his wife several times.

May he rest in peace. I also offer my sincere condolences to his family.
