Strong-minded couple give best interpretation to self-reliance
There is a respectable disabled woman in Xicheng village, Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu province, who adopted a disabled orphan in her youth. To build a family for the orphan, she married a young man living far away from her hometown, who also adopted an orphan, and they gave birth to a son in the second year of their marriage. Marrying a man thousands of miles away
Wang Xiaohong, born in Guizhou province, had her leg and eyes seriously injured in a traffic accident in 1993, which brought her to great grief. What's worse, her elder bother divorced his wife and they both left home afterwards, and she has not heard from them since. Misfortunes had rained down heavily upon the poor girl, making her feel lonely. What they left her was a 1-year-old baby girl, named Wang Yaoyan. Fortunately, Wang Xiaohong was introduced to Hu Changming, a bachelor living in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, in February 1994.The orphan Hu Changming adopted is actually the daughter of his dead brother, and is 6 years and named Hu Yuqing. Wang Xiaohong believed Hu to be kind-hearted and responsible, since he shouldered the responsibility of raising Hu Yuqing. She thought that she could live a better and happier life with him, so Wang Xiaohong went to Zhenjiang with a 1-year-old baby girl and married Hu Changming at the end of 1994.

Hard as the conditions were after marriage, they felt confident in the future. Hu Changming worked outside the home to support the family, and Wang Xiaohong did the housework and took care of the children. Because Wang Yaoyan, the orphan Wang Xiaohong brought to Zhenjiang, suffered from a binocular congenital cataract, the couple loves her with all their hearts and regards her almost as their own daughter. Wang Xiaohong often tells the 2 orphans, "I am your mother." In the second year after marriage, their own son Hu Ziwen was born, an even heavier burden on the whole family, but the husband and wife encourage each other, support each other, and live optimistically with their 3 children.Hu Changming has had to take several jobs to support the family, which often makes him drop with fatigue in the workplace. Deeply worried about the health of her husband, Wang Xiaohong takes part-time jobs in construction fields with her children secretly despite her poor eyesight. She told reporters that she had been wearing second-hand clothes for 10 whole years, and never squandered a dime.
Wang Yaoyan, 16 years old this year, told reporters that although they are very poor, her parents treat her as their own child. Besides, she gets along well with her brothers, and feels happy.
3 poor children but 1 happy family
All villagers know about their difficulties. The local civil affairs bureau and village cadres have offered economic assistance many times, but the couple always declined. Wang Xiaohong told reporters yesterday morning that they do not want to be looked down upon by others, and also do not want their children to cultivate a habit of leaning on other people; they want the children to learn that they themselves determine their future.Wang Xiaohong said proudly, "the best thing we've taught our children is "to be strong-minded."
