Integrating Cities Conferences, Berlin, Germany

The Senate of Berlin is proud to host the INTEGRATING CITIES III Conference in cooperation with EUROCITIES and the European Commission, DG Justice, Freedom and Security.

The INTEGRATING CITIES III conference will bring together EUROCITIES politicians with European and national policy-makers, representatives from academia, migrant communities, the private sector and the media. Amongst others we expect European Commissioners Jacques Barrot (tbc) and Vladimir Spidla (tbc), the Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit, and high-level delegations from the cities of Leeds, London, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Rome, Paris, Berlin and others. The conference will be moderated by Jan Niessen of the Migration Policy Group.

The role of diversity management and equal opportunities in local integration policy will stand at the centre of the conference debates. Mayors and EU policy-makers will engage in a high-level dialogue on how best to harness the enriching opportunities of diversity in Europeโ€™s cities. They set the frame for a number of panel discussions which will explore how cities can effectively implement policies for diversity management and equal opportunities in their roles as service providers, employers and buyers of goods and services.

Launched in Rotterdam in 2006, INTEGRATING CITIES is based on a partnership between EUROCITIES and the European Commission, DG Justice, Freedom and Security. It promotes the implementation of the Common Basic Principles on Integration through a dialogue between politicians from Europeโ€™s major cities with EU policy-makers. INTEGRATING CITIES III forms part of the EUROCITIES project "Diversity and Equality in European Cities" (DIVE), co-financed by the European Commission, DG Justice, Freedom and Security.

DEADLINE for registrations: 15 March 2009
