Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities 1st Partners' Forum 14-15 September 2012 in NEW YORK

Building on the discussions that will take place during the Fifth Conference of States Parties regarding the rights of Children with disabilities, the Forum will provide an opportunity to highlight the importance for governments and child rights organizations to address the needs of children with disabilities and call upon disability rights organizations to place more focus on the specific vulnerabilities of children and adolescents. The discussions held at the Forum will also play a major role in setting the stage for the High Level Meeting on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities planned for September 2013 and strategizing for the post-2015 agenda.

Sessions

The Forum will be held at UNICEF House in New York and will commence Friday 14 September at 14:30 and will be followed by a reception in the same location from 17:30-19:00 PM. It will continue on Saturday 15 September from 9:00 – 17:00. The agenda is forthcoming.

Working Groups

As you know from our previous message, we planned to establish working groups with four specific purposes. We have focused primarily on the work to develop the plan for the Partners’ Forum and have engaged with the core disability networks (IDA, IDDC, GPDD). Plans for the other three working groups will be further discussed during the Forum.

Registration

We will be sending out another email in the near future with an official invitation and registration details. Also, please note that while UNICEF is ready to host the event and ensure full accessibility, and will provide reasonable accommodation upon request, it will not be able to assist with costs related to participation.

If you have questions, please contact Amy Farkas (afarkas@unicef.org) and Anna Burlyaeva-Norman (aburlyaevanorman@unicef.org).
