Statement for Promoting the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) entered into force on May 3rd 2008, becoming the first human rights convention of the 21st Century which has legal guarantee of the rights of persons with disabilities.Despite of the fact that Taiwan is not a member of United Nations, Human Rights is considered an important issue by Taiwanese people as in the international society.

Therefore, Eden co-organized the "Proud to be Myself, Citizen Rights of Persons with Disabilities International Conference" with The League of Welfare Organizations for The Disabled R.O.C. on December 8th to 9th and announced the first Declaration on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of Taiwan purposed by persons with disabilities.With President Ma Ying-Jeou promised to put the declaration into action and experience exchange between international guest speakers and national organizations for persons with disabilities, we expect the active participation in public affairs by persons with disabilities in every aspect and the realization of an inclusive society.
