US to impart vocational training to disabled persons

LAHORE - The US Ambassador Anne W Patterson Monday handed over a cheque of $200,000 to Pervez Malik, President of the Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) as a donation for the rehabilitation of disabled persons.

US Political Counsellor Bryan D. Hunt, LABARD Senior VP Mian Nusratuddin, Secretary General Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan besides others were also present in the meeting.

The US Ambassador said that United States would continue to work with the LABARD in its endeavour to impart vocational training to the disabled persons. She said the grant to LABARD is a continuation of US initiatives in Pakistan to support the cause of early rehabilitation of disabled persons.

She said that the US recognize that we cannot have a healthy and growing society unless the communities we work in are healthy and sustainable. She said โ€œwe are committed to improving the quality of life in all parts of the world and also committed to LABARDโ€™s all future initiatives.โ€

In his address, the LABARD President Pervaiz Malik thanked The US Ambassador for the donation. He said that the donation would help LABARD further extend the circle of its services and more disabled persons could be able to get training of different skills. He said that LABARD is not only establishing camps in various parts of the City for the registration of disabled persons but is also focusing on building confidence in all such people who are suffering due to some disability so that they could be able to face all challenges boldly.

The LCCI VP Faisal Iqbal Sheikh said that the LABARD was doing a marvelous work by providing training and job placements to the disabled persons and it is duty of all the segments of the society to play their role for this noble cause. He said that LABARD was the only organization that has an excellent arrangement to cater to the needs of disabled persons. He said LCCI would continue to support the LABARD in days and years to come.
