3 held for raping deaf and mute women
While the cases of rape in Pune and Beed districts have stunned the state, in Ashta town, a deaf and mute woman was raped last month and porn videos of the incident were circulated on cellphones by the alleged rapists.
The Islampur police station have arrested three youths from the same village in connection with the crime that has shocked the Walva town. The suspects have been identified as Arkesh Arun Awati (21), Vaibhav Vijay Kinige (23), and Gurudatt Sarjerao Ugare-Koli (24) - all resident of Awati lane. Last month, the suspects Arkesh and Vaibhav entered the house of the 28-year-old victim when her 60-year-old husband had gone to the farm. While Arkesh allegedly raped the woman, Vaibhav shot the act on his cellphone. The suspects allegedly threatened to kill the woman if she disclosed the crime.
The suspects downloaded the clips on the computer of Gurudatt and circulated the videos via MMS. The woman, who could not speak or hear, somehow conveyed the ordeal to her husband when he returned at night. However, they did not file a police complaint.
When the video clips became the hot topic in the village, the victimโs husband lodged a complaint with the Islampur police station on Tuesday.
The police arrested the three suspects who have got the police custody up to April 26. The suspects have been booked as per sections 376 and 292 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860. Deputy superintendent of police Somnath Gharge told DNA that supplementary charge as per the Information Technology Act, 2000 will be filed against the suspects after investigating the case.
Nandni case
The Kolhapur police on Tuesday conducted inquiry at different lodges in Jaysingpur town in Shirol taluka of Kolhapur and Sangli in the case of porn videos recorded by Chidanand Mallappa Mendigre and Raju Danke (both resident of Nandni village in Shirol taluka).The villagers had paraded Mendigre naked and burned his homes and dairies on April 13. Mendigre had allegedly circulated and recorded the porn videos of a few village women. The police had arrested Mendigre and his colleague Danke. Danke and Mendigre are in police custody. About 19 members of Mendigre family have been ousted from the village after the incident.
