June 26, the International day in solidarity with victims of torture

June 26, the International day in solidarity with victims of torture, is next Wednesday. As you know, the Special Rapporteur on Torture has called for an absolute ban on nonconsensual medical interventions against persons with disabilities, including restraint, solitary confinement, and the non-consensual administration of electroshock, psychosurgery or mind-altering drugs such as neuroleptics without the free and informed consent of the person concerned. He also calls for repeal of contrary legal provisions such as those allowing confinement or treatment against the person's will, and acknowledges that such practices always amount to inhuman degrading treatment and may be torture.

Please use the day of June 26 to express your opinions, feelings, vision for a future without psychiatric torture or detention, recommendations for what governments and others can do to make this a reality, tell your story and bear witness to the reality of forced psychiatry. This activity is for survivors and resisters of forced psychiatry and also for all human rights defenders to speak up as allies.
