The 3rd Regional Consultation Meeting on ASEAN and Human Rights 16-19 September 2010, Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

Ms. Sureeporn made a comment from the viewpoint of disability movement

The 3rd Regional Consultation Meeting on ASEAN and Human Rights, held in Kuala Lumpur during 16-19 Sepbember 2010, organized by: Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA). There were almost 100 participants from civil society orgainzations(CSOs) from ASEAN. The discussion concern on the situation in the suiuation of disadvantaged and marginalized groups in ASEAN including persons with disabilities, women and children, indigenous peoples, migrats, refugees, people in detention, the homeless and victims of forced displacements.

The objectives of this meeting are:

  1. To provide a platform for dialogue, cooperation and coordination on issues pertaining to the human rights in ASEAN and its development among civil society organizations;
  2. To identify and analyze best practices, challenges, opportunities and initiatives in engaging with ASEAN human rights mechanism and other stakeholders
  3. To develop 2011 national and regional CSO advocacy strategy for an independent and effective ASEAN human rights mechanism;
  4. To identify key entry points for CSO human rights engagement with the three ASEAN communities
