Disabled Peoples' International Asia-Pacific (DPIAP) and DPI India will co-organize the "Regional Workshop on the Preparation for the New Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities: The Decade of Action" on 18-21 August, 2011 in New Delhi, India. This workshop is in Collaboration with: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and funded by the Abilis Foundation of Finland.

In conjunction with the regional workshop, DPIAP Regional Council meeting is organized on 17 August 2011. The meeting venue will be informed later.

The regional workshop program will include CRPD , existing Human rights mechanism, IL, Disability Rights Tribunal Asia Pacific, Making the rights real campaign.

Theme:

Towards accelerating the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

Aims:

  1. To build partnerships between DPOs and mainstream human rights organizations with the goal of advancing the Convention on the Rights of Person with Disability (CRPD)
  2. To mainstream disability perspectives in human rights mechanism especially to the New Decade of Persons with Disabilities.

The main objectives of the regional council meeting are

  1. To seek an advice for new DPIAP strategy to implement the new AP Decade or so call Delhi Action plan;
  2. To build capacity of DPIAP Management;
  3. To strengthen collaboration between RDO office and Regional Council.
