MHE Calls on the French Policy Makers not to Worsen the Situation of Persons in Mental Health Facilities

During his speech at the ERASME hospital of Antony (France) last December, the French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced the release of seventy thousands Euros to secure the psychiatric facilities, to create 160 beds in care units for problematic patients and to reinforce safety measures for secluded persons by building walls and making use of electronic bracelets. http://www.community-living.info/index.php?page=233&news=331&pages=&archive=

UK: Impact of the EU Working Time Directive on Independent Living :

In December 2008, MEPs adopted an amendment on the abolition of the opt-out clause 36 months after the entry into force of the Working Time Directive. Active Support Project, Wales : ACTIVE SUPPORT focuses on the needs and abilities, especially potential abilities of individuals in a person centred way, changing the focus from "caring for" or "doing to" to "supporting" and "working with". ENIL Research Paper on Community Living : This paper elaborates the human rights argument for the full support of community living and independent living for all disabled people that is: living in the community independently in a place of one's own choice with financial and local support and with access to personal assistance. Expertise Centre on Independent Living The Expertise Centre gathers knowledge on methods of direct payment for the support of disabled persons. The aim of the Centre, based in Belgium, is empowerment of people with disabilities, in order to enable all to lead an independent life. It is led by people with disabilities, with the cooperation of scientists as co-advisors.
