Upcoming Events at United Nations Headquarters

Informal General Assembly Plenary meeting in preparation for the 2010 MDG Summit, Tuesday, 13 April 2010, 10:00 a.m. โ€“ 1:00 p.m., Conference Room 2 (NLB)

The meeting with senior representatives from the civil society is part of a series of GA interactive sessions on the MDGs that the two co-facilitators of the 2010 MDG Summit process are organizing ahead of the start of the intergovernmental consultations on the Summit outcome document in April 2010. It provides an opportunity to engage with different stakeholders in a conversation on concrete examples of successes, best practices, lessons learned, obstacles, gaps, challenges and opportunities in achieving the MDGs by 2015.

Global Preparatory Meetings - 21 and 22 April 2010

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will address issues of gender equality, empowerment of women, and international development cooperation at its High-level Segment, to be held from 28 June to 2 July 2010 in New York. In preparation for these discussions, the Council will organize three preparatory meetings to be held on 21 and 22 April 2010 which include:

  1. A session on "Financing for Climate Change: Gender Equality" organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the NGO Committee on the Status of Women/NY from 10 am to 1:00 pm on 21 April 2010;
  2. session on "Who Feeds the World in 2010 and Beyond: Rural women as Agents of Change and Champions of Global Food Security" organized by DESA, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Bank, and UNIFEM in collaboration with Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN), and The Hunger Project. The event will take place from 10 am to 1 pm on 22 April 2010; and
  3. A session on the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) from 3 pm to 6 pm on 22 April 2010 to discuss the role of aid in mitigating the impact of the financial and economic crises on achieving national development goals and the Millennium Development Goals.
